Why Martin Odegaard yelled at Bukayo Saka during Arsenal’s win over Southampton

Why Martin Odegaard yelled at Bukayo Saka during Arsenal’s win over Southampton

Martin Odegaard showed some much-needed leadership skills during Arsenal’s win over Southampton this weekend.

Arsenal see off Southampton

Arsenal would play host to Southampton at 3 pm UK time on Saturday, looking to put an end to their dismal run of results.

And, when all was said and done at the Emirates, this is exactly what Mikel Arteta and co. did.

Alexandre Lacazette fired the hosts into the lead after 21 minutes, before Martin Odegaard doubled Arsenal’s advantage six minutes later.

Gabriel then made sure of all three points 62 minutes in, earning Arsenal an impressive 3-0 win which moved them to 6th in the Premier League for the time being (Tottenham have two games in hand).

Why Martin Odegaard yelled at Saka

After the game, football.london have highlighted why Martin Odegaard yelled at Bukayo Sakai during the match.

As per FL:

As Armando Broja was receiving treatment following an injury, many of the Arsenal players ran over to take instructions from their manager. In the meantime though Southampton were suddenly ready to start again, and with some of his teammates still out of position, it was Odegaard who raised the alarm, ordering Bukayo Saka into his right wing position to stop a quick restart.

Such an action showcased the leadership qualities that Odegaard has begun to demonstrate over the last few games.

With Arsenal’s current captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out for disciplinary reasons, Granit Xhaka something of a hot-head and Lacazette out of contract in the summer, the task of leading this Arsenal side is seemingly falling on the young guns, with Odegaard, in particular, rising to the task well so far.
