Where Manchester United are regarding potential Paul Pogba replacement revealed

Paul Pogba & Manchester United

The future of United star Paul Pogba has been up in the air for some time now.

Mino Raiola claimed back in December of 2020 that his client was unhappy at Old Trafford, suggesting that it was ‘over’ for him at the club.

This was followed by Raiola once again attempting to drum up speculation surrounding a potential move to Real Madrid for his client.

All of this comes with Pogba now having just over six months to run on his current Man United contract.

This, of course, means that he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January.

Pogba had, of course, previously struggled under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was often deployed out of position on the left or right of a 4-2-3-1.

Of course, Ralf Rangnick has since taken over in the United dugout. But, when asked about Pogba’s future recently, seemed less inclined to play games, suggesting that, if Pogba does not want to be at United, he should leave:

“If a player does not want to play Manchester United in the medium or long term, I don’t think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind. But let’s wait and see, I have spoken with him [Pogba] for 15 minutes over the phone a few days ago [Tuesday]. Let’s have him come back, get fit, train with the team and see where we stand, how the team has developed by then.”

Given the circus-style saga that Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has often drummed up, Man United fans would probably not be too upset to see the Frenchman leave, even if it is on a free.

But, it would still likely see United’s need for a new central midfielder grow even further as Fred, Scott McTominay and an ageing Nemanja Matic is simply not enough to cover two positions for an entire season regardless of quality.

Now, the Telegraph have provided an update on Man United’s situation regarding a potential Pogba replacement.

They report that, amid Pogba’s uncertain future, Manchester United are looking at midfield options in the transfer market and are ‘in the early stages of assessing potential midfielder arrivals in the event of the £89million signing leaving without a fee.’

Given Pogba is still under contract till June and a marquee midfield signing would probably be hard to come by in January, United being in the early stages of looking for a Pogba replacement should not concern United fans too much right now.
