How Aubameyang made European football history with Barcelona hat-trick

Why Pedri’s stunner vs Valencia was credited to Aubameyang, and how it helped Barcelona’s new striker set a European record

The 4th goal netted by Barcelona during the club’s meeting with Valencia on Sunday has been reassigned, in the process allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to etch his name into the history books of European football.

Hitman Aubameyang has of course seen his name take centre stage in the Spanish headlines this evening.

This comes on the back of the Gabonese international’s stellar efforts during the Blaugrana’s La Liga trip to the Mestalla to face Valencia.

Turning attentions back towards the La Liga table, their latest triumph on Sunday has seen Barcelona reestablish themselves as firm favourites to clinch 4th spot in the Spanish top-flight.

The Catalan heavyweights now sit on 42 points, level with champions Atletico Madrid below them, and four points adrift of Real Betis above.

Crucially, though, Xavi and co. boast a game in hand on both, as a spot in next season’s Champions League, once a distant possibility, begins to look increasingly likely for the rejuvenated Blaugrana.
