The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit on Wednesday reported the deaths of a woman in her 80s and a woman in her 90s. Both lived in the general community.

Their passing brings the pandemic’s death toll up to 521.
The health unit also reported 131 COVID-positive patients in area hospitals, however not all of them are being treated primarily for the disease. Fifteen COVID patients are in intensive care.

Another 312 people have tested positive in Windsor-Essex. Due to limited testing capacity, the health unit predicts the true number of infected individuals is higher.
Outbreaks remain active at 35 community settings, 12 workplaces, and 26 long-term care and retirement homes where more than 104 residents and 266 staff have tested positive since as early as mid-December.
