The municipality announced on Wednesday that Doug Pitre has been appointed to the seat to replace Andrew Dowie — who was elected Windsor-Tecumseh MPP in June.

Pitre was one of eight people nominated for the seat. Town of Tecumseh council selected him following interviews with each candidate.

Pitre will hold the seat until the end of the current term of council, on Nov. 14, 2022.

The next municipal election is on Oct. 24.

Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara welcomed Pitre and thanked all those who put their names forward for the seat.

“While there are only a few short months left in this term, it is important that Ward 1 residents are represented on council,” McNamara said.

A long-time Tecumseh resident, Pitre retired from firefighting after 39 years with Tecumseh Fire and Rescue Services.

He has extensive experience working with council as a member of the municipality’s senior management team.

Pitre has yet to announce his intentions in regards to the upcoming municipal election.
